Giving a Gift or a Present

Updated: Nov 19, 2022

A gift is a present. It is an act of love 'giving or being given' usually to someone without any expectation of receiving in return. We give gifts as a token of appreciation, to show favour to someone, honouring an occasion, celebrating a milestone or as a thanks of assistance.

What makes gifting so special is the ability to choose something unique that returns a smile on receipt. We give a gift to give pleasure to someone we like and is dependant on the relationship between two individuals. It's a gesture of affection and care, "I'm giving this gift because I'm thinking about you and I want to make you happy". The most successful gifts are the ones that are thoughtfully given, where some connection and thinking has been done beforehand.

A person who gives a gift is referred to as a 'gifter'. The recipient we give a gift to is referred to as the 'giftee' and we need to carefully consider their preferences so that the gift we choose to give is received with gratitude. There is no point giving something that is not enjoyed or loved, the gift will not be appreciated and unlikely to be kept. A unique type of gift is often the type which is hand made, usually one of kind made with love ie. food, art, clothing, homewares, cosmetics, it's an endless list. Giving a gift is an appreciation and 'thank you' tool not to be taken lightly.

"Don't forget, a person's greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated"

H Jackson Brown Jr.

A hand made item shows the power of creating something unique made from the heart with passion and time. It may be considered of higher quality because it's not mass produced. Each handmade product is unique.

Add the important finishing touch by wrapping your present and making it look fantastical. It provides more than protection, it hides the identity of a gift and adds an element of surprise until the right moment making the 'giftee' feel even more special. Choose an interesting piece of wrapping material; paper, recycled if possible, fabric, box. Gifts always look better in a box. Wrap neatly with care and most importantly tie with beautiful ribbon and bow.
